Hailed as “funny, unabashedly entertaining, and personal” IndieWIRE , this charmingly candid journey across the United States is a road movie with an emotionally engaging twist. Driving along back roads alone–armed only with her camera–Davenport eloquently investigates the intersection between loss and national tragedy. She meets strangers who quickly become friends, revealing their most intimate and personal feelings about topics as diverse as love, nature, and war. Soon, the parallel lines in the asphalt begin to reflect the enduring themes along the highway of life–a road paved with sadness, humor, and genuine surprise. I cannot go this year and the next three years not playing basketball. Davenport had earlier been admitted to Bates — it was her runner-up choice for college. After realizing that she needed basketball in her life, she called the admissions office to see if there was any chance she could still attend the Lewiston school.
Within two days, she went from being a UMaine freshman student to a Bates first-year basketball player.
Then she added 16 and 10 points against Bowdoin and Colby respectively to start NESCAC play. Athlete Awards. Date, Athlete, Sport. 3/9/, Ryan Nealis.

Instead, Davenport enlists a somewhat reluctant gay pal to donate his sperm and the support of various others in her life, including her best friend Amy, to accompany her on her journey toward being a single mother, one she chronicles on camera.
The Midwestern childhood home she travels back to, the siblings with their beautiful houses and law careers, stand in contrast to the more bohemian life she has in New York, the one-bedroom apartment with the crumbling ceiling and the host of supportive friends. When Davenport comes home from the hospital with Jasper, Amy, Eric the biological father and another friend end up crashing at her apartment to help her through the first few days.
That messiness is actually kind of wonderful — the sense that even as Davenport plunges into this experience without the structures in place that her father insists she needs, new supports arise to help her along. The imperfection of it, the unsteadiness is what gives the film a sense of tremulous vulnerability — she is no more certain of how this will work than anyone else in her life, and lets us see how terrified and thrilled by the giant shift in her life she is.

Nina Davenport always knew that she wanted to have children. Growing up, she had a very close relationship with her own mother, and she longed to experience that same bond again—from the perspective of a parent. After her twenties and her thirties passed by, filled with the usual evolving friendships, career development, and adventures in dating, Nina reached a point when she felt ready to have a child. And, like millions of other women in the U.
Deciding to become a parent is a difficult decision, no matter what position a person is in. You said that you had always wanted kids, but was there a specific instance that made you realize that it was the right time? I felt like I was at a now or never moment, and I just knew that I really wanted a baby. It was so central to who I am, what I wanted out of life. I just felt like I had to do it. We just had a very special and intense bond and I felt really strongly that I wanted to experience the bond that we had again, but from her perspective, from the perspective of a parent.
